Schisandra a native of Asia, Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) is a woody vine that produces small, vibrant red fruits. Traditionally used in Chinese medicine as a harmonizing tonic or "King" remedy, Schizandra is included in every classic text on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Schisandra has been highly regarded for centuries as a powerful adaptogen because of its unique nutrient and flavor profiles. Chinese folklore says that schisandra can "calm the heart and quiet the spirit." The schisandra fruit is also known as the five flavor berry, capturing the five basic flavors in Chinese herbal medicine - sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy.
