The majority of resveratrol sold throughout the world is Chinese-sourced resveratrol that is extracted from the Japanese knotweed plant (Polygonum cuspidatum). Given the origin of polygonum-derived resveratrol, there is a serious risk that many of these products are contaminated with high levels of PAHs (a class of chemicals that can be detrimental for human health) or emodin (an impurity known for its laxative effect).
